Top Four Natural Sleep Aids

Sleep deprivation has been a global problem. Stress and anxiety can cause sleep deprivation but there are a lot more. It can cause one to concentrate less at work, in school and even in doing simple tasks at home. Avoid becoming sleep deprived by adding several foods to your diet.

There are a lot of people who experience sleep deprivation. Some people do not realize that there are a lot of factors that affect their sleep. Doctors suggest that we take vitamins and medicines in the morning since these may cause sleep apnea or vivid dreams that could disturb an individual’s sleep. Some believe that alcohol can help them sleep but they’re wrong. It is recommended that
we stop drinking alcohol at least two hours before going to bed.

Sleep deprivation can cause an individual to feel tired even upon waking up in the morning. Aside from that, it can also cause one to become cranky during the day. Not having enough sleep can lead to serious health problems such as heart disease, weight loss, memory loss, sleep paralysis, weak immune system and high blood pressure.

Below are some of the natural sleep aids that have proven to improve sleeping habits. These foods have tryptophan, an acid that is very effective in inducing sleep. However, to be more efficient, these foods must be consumed in an empty stomach.

Meat

There are certain kinds of meat that are able to help make sleeping habits better. Fishes such as tuna and shrimp effectively induce sleep. Also, turkey is known to cause drowsiness. Other meats (like chicken) also contain tryptophan but they have other amino acids which neutralize the ability of these meats to induce sleep.

Cereals or Oat Meal with Milk

Milk itself can help you go to sleep. But adding whole grain cereal or oat meal would make your body produce more sleep inducing acids.

Lemon Balm

Lemon balm has been very famous for relieving digestive problems including menstrual cramps. Other than that, it can help an individual relax and easily fall asleep. Lemon balm is completely safe for adults. However, pregnant women are advised to avoid the herb.

Yogurt
It is recommended to choose yogurts wisely since not all yogurts can help improve sleep. Avoid those which are high in sugar. It is also best to combine yogurt with other foods such as granola, and other foods which are rich in carbohydrates such as oat meal and wheat bread.
